Patrons of regional theater know Palm Beach County offers an exceptional selection of independent productions. The Carbonell Award nominations are out, and the judges agree.
Me and My Girl, from Maltz Jupiter Theater, and 1776, by Palm Beach Dramaworks, combined for 16 of the 100 nominations issued this week. The Maltz led all other theaters with 18 nominations in total; its production of Frost/Nixon also contributed heavily. (That’s one we’re sorry to have missed.)
The West Boca Theatre Company and the fledgling Theatre Lab (based at Florida Atlantic University) were recognized among the nominations for Best New Work. Click here for a complete list of nominees.
The Carbonell Awards recognize excellence and innovation in regional theater in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on Monday, April 3, at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.
Tickets won’t be on sale until March 13, so mark your calendar. When that Monday rolls around, you can purchase tickets at the Broward Center’s website or by calling the box office at (954) 462-0222.
