Movie Classics at the Paramount

The landmarked Paramount Theatre

In 2002, town residents lobbied for an “old movie night” at the Paramount Theatre and packed the house on the very first night. After 15 years, the seasonal Paramount Theatre Movie Classics presentation continues to be a highlight for cinema fans who enjoy iconic films in an iconic setting. It’s a ministry of Paramount Church, which now occupies the one-time theater at 139 North County Road in Palm Beach.

Movies roll at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month from December through May. Most films are preceded by a half-hour concert, sing-along, or historical perspective of the evening’s film. Donations are appreciated, and help cover the cost of licensing and refreshments afterward.

This year’s films:

  • December 1: It’s Love I’m After with Bette Davis, Leslie Howard, and Olivia DeHavilland
  • January 5: The Last Time I Saw Paris with Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Walter Pidgeon, and Donna Reed
  • February 2: Whipsaw with Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy
  • March 2: Lady Be Good with Eleanor Powell, Robert Young, and Ann Southern
  • April 6: The Young in Heart with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Janet Gaynor and Paulette Goddard
  • May 4: A Damsel in Distress with Fred Astaire, George Burns, Gracie Allen and Joan Fontaine
