The “Best Twentieth-Century Finds” in all of Palm Beach County? The Silver Fund, on Worth Avenue.
The “Best Cultural Flashback”? The Royal Room at the Colony Hotel.
So says Palm Beach Illustrated magazine, which dedicated its September issue to the PBI Awards – what it deems the best of the best of what our area has to offer.
The Silver Fund gallery, at 330 Worth, trades in exceptional 20th century furniture, decorative art and design. Its comprehensive silver collection features Georg Jensen holloware, but extends to other noted 20th century silver designed by Jean Puiforicat, William Spratling and Antonio Pineda.
Enter the Royal Room, and you’re swept back to the time of the swanky supper club. Big names visit our in-town cabaret: Tommy Tune, Billy Davis Jr. & Marilyn McCoo, and Lainie Kazan. But it’s the atmosphere that makes it an award-winner, everything from stage walls lined with pleated drapes to the little fringed table lamps and moody lighting.
The magazine gave a nod to other hot spots within a stone’s throw of the island:
- Best Way to Glow: The Bee, downtown West Palm Beach (but there’s also a Palm Beach Bee on Royal Poinciana Way).
- Best Place for Fika: Johan’s Joe Swedish Coffee House & Café, West Palm Beach.
- Best Nesting and Gifting: The Nest, West Palm Beach’s Antiques Row.
